Thunderstorms are responsible for electrical surges being transmitted through the telephone and power lines. These surges often damage electronic equipment and computers are susceptible.
We should all use a good quality surge protector. Some of the better ones come with insurance guarantees, so read the fine print on the packaging. They will protect your computer and modem from lightning strikes.
To be on the safe side it is best to unplug your modem and PC from the power and telephone lines when storms are about and on those occasions when you are away from home.

QuickLaunch
By default, the QuickLaunch toolbar is not shown. This is a handy feature and only requires a single click to open the application. It is always viewable on your taskbar so you don't have to resort to your desktop or Start options to open the app.To enable it...
Right click on an open area of the toolbar
- Select Toolbars
- Select Quick Launch
- icons can be added, removed, or moved within the area
Setting a webpage as your own homepage
If you want to always go to a particular page every time you start Internet explorer. Go to Tools / Internet options / type in your home page in the top box.

Look at the options in The Page link on the Command Toolbar. There is Text Size and Zoom.
No Command Toolbar, then right click in an empty space on the tool bar ( the grey strips on the top of the page) and make sure there is a tick by Command Bar (click on the line to add or remove a tick)
Show the Desktop
Three ways to Show the Desktop (Minimise all open Files) if you cant see the button on your toolbar:
1. Press the Windows key+D together, to get all your windows back do it again (Toggle Switch).
2. Press Windows key+M together, press Windows key+Shift+M to undo.
3. Right click the Task Bar and choose 'Show the Desktop'
