Eurobodalla Seniors Computer Users Group (EuroSCUG) enables participants to develop and share their computing skills in a supportive social atmosphere where the use of computers is the common interest.
It aims to support members in the use of their computers, teach creative activities using computers and encourage communication via computers.
EuroSCUG held its first public meeting in February 2008 and by December 2008 it had over 100 members aged 60 to 80+ from a variety of backgrounds with a range of skills.
A general meeting is held in Moruya each month with a guest speaker followed by special interest demonstrations. In order to overcome the ‘Tyranny of Distance’ an integral part of the organisation are five Local Area Groups which all meet monthly throughout the shire These are designed to be hands on groups, tailored to member interests and level of expertise. The website features a ‘Help’ forum and there is also a monthly email newsletter.
EuroSCUG promotes self help and all our members contribute what they can to the group.
It is composed of seniors helping seniors and all of our tutors have been gratified by what they can learn from their groups.
Our sessions are presently focused on helping beginners as that is where the greatest need currently is. However our aim is to upskill intermediate members who will then be able to assist with the beginners, creating the opportunity for our Local Area Co-ordinators to develop courses for more advanced members.
